Oxidative synthesis of yellow photoluminescent carbon nanoribbons from carbon black

Micrometer long multilayer carbon nanoribbons with high oxygen content and nitrogen doping were obtained from the nitric acid treatment of Black Pearls 2000. The (NRs) exhibited yellow light emission under UV excitation. oxidation other grades black yielded irregular small graphene oxide fragments or quantum dots instead. Remarkably, familiar straightforward materials reemerges as a powerful tool for synthesis technology-relevant nanoribbons, unlocking potential such straighforward chemistry applied to inexpensive commercially available black. • Carbon are uniquely (CB) BP2000. Oxidation Vulcan, Monarch Acetylene yield sheets dots. Nanostructure depends on CB surface area, amount amorphous size basic structural units. Nanoribbons have modulated by defects.
